The Piano

Postby Samuel_Scott » 01 Oct 2013 16:03

So I grabbed the Australian blu-ray of The Piano without doing any research to find it is 1080i. Doh! At least it has a commentary and featurette over the USA release though. Anyone viewed both the Aus and one of the 1080p releases and care to offer their transfer opinions?

(I'll add to the database this week hopefully)

Well, I finished this disc up:

Picture can certainly be improved upon, but reading reviews of the US and German discs, it seems they suffer from the same problems so I'll not bother quadruple dipping just yet  . Hopefully this will get a much better treatment eventually. I'm guessing Studio Canal own the rights in the UK after taking over Optimum, and they generally do a decent job. Hopefully they'll release it at some point.

Well, bad transfer on Blu-Ray is very common even with recent movies. Even big budget flicks suffer from this issue.

Still a superior transfer than any I've seen before (2 DVD releases, TV etc).

BS.

But Piano needs a proper release from Criterion or something.

Criterion? Never liked their transfers.
