11483. Saw V (UK Blu, Lions Gate)

Have 1/2/6 on order which would mean I'll have 1-7 on Blu. Didn't want to watch Saw 7 in 3D before refreshing my memory with the other 6.

What a surprise! This forgotten kungfu classic has been on my wishlist for years. How's the PQ? Anything like the excellent Celestial Pictures Shaw Brothers remasters? Is it cut?

I'm going to pre-order it :-D

The comparison is up for it, review will be up at midnight. For a Kung Fu film that has probably never been looked after, it looks pretty good. Some minor stability issues, and a couple of minor scratches here and there, but most will be happy. Just about to watch the two interviews, and very shortly, I will chuck up a couple of screengrabs for you. I'll be giving the PQ a generous C+, and the AQ a C-. In the grand scheme of things, that is where they sit, but for the genre (not including Shaw Brothers and HKL releases etc), they are at the higher end of the spectrum.

Remember, if you're pre-ordering via Amazon, click our Amazon link to the right of the release in the comparison! (if you have adblock, you'll need to disable it for this site).

Terracotta Distribution should try to acquire some other cult HK films such as Legend of a Fighter (1982), The Club (1981), Jumping Ash (1976), to name a few, and present them remastered in their OAR.

Here's another Shanghai 13 release:

Noted.

This is Terracotta's second entry in their Classic Kung Fu Collection (I reviewed their first here - http://dvdcompare.net/review.php?rid=3463).

AFAIK, this will be a continuing collection, so let us see what happens. 8)

However, they do seem to release titles at a very slow rate overall (maybe one every two months) so who knows.

I think there is some cropping but never seen the film before. I'll mention that in the review of course.

PQ looks average. It does look like there's slight cropping but at least this hard-to-find and long-forgotten kung fu movie is finally available in anamorphic widescreen DVD.

What makes this film fun is not the plot. It's all about watching an all-star cast of Shaw Brothers kung fu actors of that decade (1974-1984) playing in the movie even though each of them only gets a limited screen time. This, however, is not a Shaw Brothers production.

FYI: The actor with the pipe was a martial art actor, one of the Venom Mob of "Five Venoms (1978)" fame, renowned for their acrobatic and martial arts skills. He passed away at the age of 40.

Thanks for the screencaps, Sam :)
