American Psycho (Lionsgate vs. Nordisk Film)

Here’s my comparison of two releases of American Psycho: Lionsgate from the U.S. versus Nordisk Film from Scandinavia, originally cretated for DVDPlaza.fi.

The American edition has 6.1-channel audio but imagewise the Scandinavian edition is slightly better.

The Nordic Blu is indeed better.

The audio bitrate on the Lionsgate's DTS-HR is much higher than the DTS-HD MA on the Nordisk, and it's 24-bit vs 16-bit. But it's an older movie and aside from the frequent use of music, there's not much to make use of a fully lossless encode. Video is definitely better on the AVC version. I'd say it's the same transfer as the Australian release, except that one has True HD which is probably a different encoding of the same master track.

There arent many movies which benefit from loseless audio. 2 MB/s DTS-HD Hires more then enough in 99% cases.
And unless you spend ~500000$ on hardware, you wont fully benefit from HD sound.

Well, i spent $600 on a second-hand Sony 7.2 system with extra-large R/L speakers and I seriously doubt my battered old ears are capable of hearing the difference between that and some top-of-the-line high-end system.

 My first setup costed ~30000.

It's like saying Rolls-Royce Phantom isn't all that different from Ford Focus.

That's a rather flawed comparison. The difference between those cars is far more perceptible to the average person than the difference between an entry-level audio system and a ridiculously expensive one  What I have is already both crystal clear and capable of going far louder than what's necessary to enjoy a movie. So i'll be buggered if i'd ever spend the value of a brand new car on something that, as far as i'm concerned, sounds exactly the damn same. I've heard "high end" systems in stores and they're absolutely no better sounding than what I have at home, so as far as i'm concerned such things are for people with more money than sense :P
