The Maze (1953) DVD UPDATED

The Maze (1953) DVD

R0 Spain - L'Atelier 13

1. AR is approx. 1.28:1

2. It is NTSC, not PAL

This explains the runtime not being substantially shorter.

However, it is 30fps only (24p not available).

The 24fps -> 30fps conversion seems to have been achieved by blending whole frames (instead of the alternative method of combining fields using 2:3 pulldown). 4 frames are converted to 5 in the pattern: A, B, B+C, C, D... therefore 1 frame in 5 has a "ghosting" type effect. This is might be quite common for discs encoded as 30fps, I'm not sure, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

3. runtime of 79:50 is correct, but it is NTSC, so the "PAL" should be removed from the Cuts section.

4. Extras:

Way Out: The Croaker (1961) - An episode of the rare Roald Dahl television series "Way Out" (26:55)
Theatrical Trailer (2:10)
Film Credits (3 pages)
Filmographies:
- William Cameron Menzies (2 pages)
- Richard Carlson (6 pages)
- Veronica Hurst (2 pages)
- Katherine Emery (2 pages)

5. Notes:

Includes a booklet (illustrated history of the film, in Spanish).

Credits and Filmographies are in Spanish or French depending on the language selected at the top menu.

(also remove the note: "Appears to be a NTSC to PAL transfer going on the RT")

Thank you for the additions. Darrell :) . I now own the Italian Sinister Film release which looks far superior.

The DVD page seems to have disappeared! Can this be fixed?

I hope to get the Blu-ray of this movie soon - certainly the Spanish DVD I own is quite poor picture quality, but I think it was the best available at the time I got it.

It was just 'hidden' while being updated.

It's ok, it's back now!

Thanks Mark.

By the way, I wasn't expecting you to include all the notes about the 24fps -> 30fps conversion! It might be that this is standard for 30fps discs, I just don't know enough about them to be sure.
