The Edge of the World (1937) ADDED

Postby Brent_Reid » 08 Jan 2018 08:42

Quick question: I see the US DVD is missing from the database but full specs are on DVDBeaver: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film5/blu-ray_reviews_71/the_edge_of_the_world_blu-ray.htm.
In this case, is it still much better for you guys for the info to be transposed to a standard comparison template, rather than simply copy/pasting direct from the review?

It's quicker for us if you could fill out the template

btw, I have been lucky enough to work for the MOD on the island on which the film is based, St Kilda. :)
I work away a lot but I will reply to all PM's within a few days so please have patience!

You are lucky, Sam: St Kilda looks incredible in all its rugged, primeval beauty and I'd love to visit one day. :)

Here you go:

Title: The Edge of the World
Country: US
Region: 1
Releasing Studio: Milestone Films
Case Type: Keepcase
Aspect Ratio: 1.33:1
Anamorphic?: No
PAL or NTSC?: NTSC
Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 2.0 mono
Subtitles (are they optional?): None
Cuts: (and if you know it, precise run time) None (1:15:15)
Commentaries: Audio commentary by Ian Christie (film critic and historian) and Thelma Schoonmaker Powell (Michael Powell's widow and Martin Scorsese's editor), including extracts from Powell’s book about making the film, '200,000 Feet on Foula', read by actor Daniel Day-Lewis
Extras:
- "Return to the Edge of the World" (1978) featurette (22:55)
- "An Airman's Letter to His Mother" wartime propaganda short (1941) (5:36)
- Stills gallery (16 images in slideshow format)
- DVD-ROM: Original 1937 press kit (28 page PDF file) and Milestone press kit (14 page PDF file)
Notes:
Easter Eggs: None
Amazon ASIN (UK, French, German, USA releases only): B00007L4MM
Source:*DVDBeaver (link needs adding to both comparisons)

The commentary note should be copied over to the BFI BD listing, as it's currently incomplete.

Unless you get to work there (via helicopter!) on the MOD site, the only way is a rather expensive day trip. If you ever do opt to go, I would recommend Kilda Cruises which is about £210 a head for a day trip but they take you round the stacks to see the legions of gannets and to Dun for the massive population of puffins. :)

Nice one, James, though you forgot to add the Beaver link to the BD page.

Blimey Sam, that is pricey. I could visit another continent for less! Well, I may still make it one day. I'm overdue a visit to several friends who live in the Outer Hebrides, so might go the extra mile - or 40!

Yeah, and to top it off, pretty much all the tour boats go from Harris so you have to go there for at least two nights too! There is one guy who goes from Uig in Skye, but from what I hear, the much longer journey in a very small boat compared to the top of the range boats of Kilda Cruises is not good.
