Radio City Christmas Spectacular (2007) ADDED

Postby Paul_Rudoff » 03 Feb 2018 18:01

It's been quite a number of years since I submitted comparison information, so apologies if I do something wrong.

I hope it's okay that I put two separate releases for the same title in one post. It will actually make it easier for all involved, because it lets you easily see the differences/edits between releases.

Speaking of differences/edits, I've written up a comparison review of both releases at the url below. Feel free to include a link to it in the database.

DVD:
Title: Radio City Christmas Spectacular (Target-Exclusive 2-Disc)
Country: USA
Region: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
Releasing Studio: TimeLife
Case Type: Standard, Clear
Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1 (16:9)
Anamorphic?: No! (4:3 Letterbox)
PAL or NTSC?: NTSC
Soundtracks: English Stereo 2.0
Subtitles: None
Cuts: HELL YES! See notes.
Commentaries: None:
Extras: Complete "Santa Flies To New York" animated sequence (3:00) (4:3 Letterbox), "Diamond at the Rock" documentary (47:07) (16:9 Anamorphic Widescreen) (sans commercial bumpers).
Notes: Runtime is 81:01 (edited). A generic "Radio City Christmas Spectacular Starring The Rockettes" title logo has been placed over the original title logo which celebrated the 75th anniversary of Radio City Music Hall. Later, at the 1:03:40 mark, between "Christmas Memories" and "Let Christmas Shine", a three minute short film about the show's history has been edited out. The original, unedited version of the program was released on Blu-ray by TimeLife. Also, all of the commercial bumpers from the accompanying "Diamond at the Rock" documentary (originally shown on the MSG channel) have been edited out (though they are not important), hence the 30-second shorter runtime than on the Blu-ray. The animated sequence is on disc 1 with the main program, the documentary is by itself on disc 2. The case says that the animated sequence is "in 3D", but that is not true. It was converted from 3D to 2D for home video, but was originally shown at the live show as 3D (glasses required). (As far as I know, the standard 1-disc DVD is just the main program, no extras at all - https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com ... L1500_.jpg)

Added the Blu-ray.

For the DVD - the 2.0 stereo track, is it Dolby Digital?

There's nothing to indicate that the DVD is Dolby, so I would say plain stereo audio.

Audio is encoded by Dolby Digital, DTS, LPCM, or MPEG. Which do you mean by “plain”?

Case and disc just say "Stereo 2.0". There are no audio options in the menus to clarify. DVDFab says "English AC-3/2". Media Player Classic says, "Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch [AC3]". I hope that helps.

AC3 is another name for Dolby Digital. Will update this later!
