Independence Day AKA ID:4 AKA ID4 (Blu-ray 4K) ADDED

Postby Mike_Henry » 17 Nov 2016 20:55

Title: Independence Day AKA ID:4 AKA ID4 (Blu-ray 4K) (1996)
Picture: 2160p 24fps HEVC with HDR
Soundtracks: English DTS:X (DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 core), French DTS 5.1, German DTS 5.1, Italian DTS 5.1
Subtitles: English HoH, Spanish, French, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, German, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, Roland Emmerich commentary English, Roland Emmerich commentary French, Roland Emmerich commentary German, Roland Emmerich commentary Spanish, Volker Engel commentary (theatrical version only) English, Volker Engel commentary (theatrical version only) French, Volker Engel commentary (theatrical version only) German, Volker Engel commentary (theatrical version only) Spanish
Contents:
* The Film - Theatrical Version
* The Film - Extended Version
Audio commentary by director/co-writer/executive producer Roland Emmerich and co-writer/producer/second unit director Dean Devlin
Audio commentary with visual effects supervisors Volker Engel and Douglas Smith
"ID4 Datastream" trivia track (theatrical version only)
Source: I own this
Notes: Samsung free give-away with UBD-K8500 player. This is one of the very few genuine DTS:X titles. Older receivers automatically see and use the down-mixed DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 core. In the same way that even older receivers automatically see and use the down-mixed lossy DTS track which is, in turn, inside that.

The back of the case refers to a 30-minute documentary which is not on the disc.

It's vital to mark this as HDR, because - unforgivably - not every 4K disc is HDR.

I really resented typing all those subtitles out!

Hi Mike,

The aspect ratio is 2.40:1, correct? (The back should list 2.39:1, but 2.40:1 is just easier to list...!)
Runtime is Theatrical Version (144:48) and the Extended Version (153:33)?
Is there a Spanish (Latin) Dolby Digital 5.1 track on the disc?
Is there a Japanese DTS 5.1 track on the disc if the player's menus are set to "Japanese"?

Yes, the back actually says 2.39:1 :-D

Runtime is Theatrical Version (144:48) and the Extended Version (153:33)?

Correct exactly for both.

Is there a Spanish (Latin) Dolby Digital 5.1 track on the disc?

Yes. Sorry, must have been an error on my part. There are 7 soundtracks, same for both versions:

Soundtracks: English DTS:X (DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 core), French DTS 5.1, German DTS 5.1, Italian DTS 5.1, Spanish DD 5.1, English DD Mono (Director's commentary), DD 2.0 (Vfx commentary)

Is there a Japanese DTS 5.1 track on the disc if the player's menus are set to "Japanese"?

Yes :o . Why so hidden? :( You learn something every day!
It's plain DTS 5.1, not even DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1/7.1 or DTS:X.

In Japanese mode, there are 4 soundtracks:
Japanese DTS 5.1, English DTS:X (DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 core), English DD Mono (Director's commentary), DD 2.0 (Vfx commentary)

Luckily, with my player (Samsung UBD-K8500) it let me set the "Disc Menu" to Japanese and leave the "On-Screen Menu" for the player in English. Even setting Audio to Japanese didn't select that audio track by default, though. I found it by pressing the audio options after starting playback.

Fox and Warner discs often hide Japanese options for some reason. Looks like the Giveaway disc is identical to the 20th Anniversary UHD disc. Thanks for checking, finally added!
