Is it certain the UHD has a Chinese language dub? (and if so, Mandarin or Cantonese?)
I emailed the writer years ago about this but never received a reply. Can you confirm?

I just typed down what the review said. However, it could be possible that the contains both and reviewer just got lazy and went with Chinese. Since the subtitles contain Chinese & Mandarin. Or at least that's thought.

Could you check with him and confirm? I did once before and though he answered, he didn't double check.

I added a comment asking if the Chinese audio is Mandarin or Cantonese or both. So hopefully he may answer.

It has both Cantonese and Traditional Mandarin subtitles. No Chinese audio that I'm aware of but I can check that when I get home.

Thanks, Alister. :-D We look forward to finally knowing this.

My assumption has been that it's mostly likely Mandarin audio given that Cantonese is kind of like Catalan (in Spain) and that it's only added as secondary audio track after the main language is offered. As far as I know Cantonese is only spoken around the Hong Kong area.

I doubt there is any Chinese language audio and should have Japanese like the US/UK discs have. I would find it very odd that Disney would author a disc with most of the audio and subtitles from an existing disc, remove Japanese options, and add a Chinese dub track.

Yes it is kind of odd for Disney to do that, but then again Disney just does their own thing. Rather than doing what most of the other big studios do for their UltraHD titles; having almost every language available in both audio and subtitles. Sony being the best example, most of the time, with extra languages not featured on the menu.

I probably should phrased that but better, was trying say it in the shortest way.
Sony tends to have more languages options than most of its competitors. At least most of the time because some times there are releases that don't carry as much (probably due to marketing second guessing which places in the world would actually watch "title"). They tend to have so much languages options that the menu doesn't even show them. You have press the audio button when watching to view the entire audio/subtitle listings. Though it should be noted sometimes in the subtitles it might be subs for signs/text. So that sometimes may be why some subtitles don't show on the menu, because they activate when that foreign language is chosen. I may be getting a little to technical in my thought processing.

My experience with Sony Blu-rays - they list every language in the audio subtitle menus, with nothing hidden. Not sure what examples you have of Sony not listing subs in their menus, unless you are talking UHD, which I don’t have any to check myself.

Do you have any example discs?

I was talking about UHDs.
With the few I've done for the site. It usually takes longer to type-up the sub/audio than the rest of the comparison. Mainly due to the menu design, you have keep down page after page. I wish they just have a page or two, something similar to the old Warner design. It would look more professional and save a lot of scrolling down for certain languages, but I also have only 4 Sony UHD's (last one being Godzilla 1998), so who knows, maybe their design has change or is due for one. After all their UHD menu designs [like other companies] was obviously meant to give the user a feel of something-new/quasi-high-tech.

So all the subtitles are in the menu, just needing to scroll through the pages. That doesn't seem like anything is "hidden", like the way Warner/Fox does things, but it doesn't seem like they are not listing languages that are on the disc, but not on the menu...

It's not so much hidden. Just some releases of UHD sometimes have more options if you press the subtitle or audio button on your remote.

It's part of the reason why I always check to see when the movie is in play if there is more. And sometimes you tell me if its not on the menu then don't add it.

If it’s something like signs and text for dub tracks then it is not necessary to add. But for example the disc has Romanian subtitles, but it’s not listed in the menu itself, we do want to list that, along with a note like “Romanian not listed in the menus”.

Still haven't gotten a reply back yet.

Did a little searching online here and there, but nothing yet.

So it looks like the specs for the audio have suddenly changed entirely, and there are no Japanese audio or subtitles on the UHD?
