The Film

Combining edge-of-your-seat thrills, suspense and breath-taking cinematography, Acting legend and Academy Award nominee Tom Berenger (Inception, Platoon) stars as a retired veteran who, whilst hunting in the snowy outback of Northern Maine, discovers a dead body and a bag full of cash. Violence quickly escalates when a group of hardened criminals in search of the loot turn the hunter in to the hunted in an already stark and deadly wilderness.

Blood and Money is an enthralling cat-and-mouse thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Video

Routine survivalist crime drama that doesn't really do anything new. It's competently handled and played and kills 90 minutes fairly painlessly.

Visually it's fairly straightforward and presented in the bizarre faddish ratio of 2:1. The colour palette is naturalistic with slightly pinkish flesh tones, primaries are slightly muted and the film generally as a cool grade. Black levels are deep and rich with no unintended crush. Contrast is supportive and there are no blown out highlights; detail is decent for standard definition. Well encoded, no compression artefacts stand out on this single layered disc.

Audio

English Dolby Digital 5.1
English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
Subtitles: None

The 5.1 is the was to go with greater depth, more layered ambiance and even some decent LFE boost in action scenes. Dialogue is clear and the score supportive. A fine lossy 5.1 track that gets the job done. Sadly, no hard of hearing subtitles.

Extras

The usual promos for other releases.

Overall

Anither decent, cheap DVD rendering of a very recent production. Image and sound are as good as can be for the format given the source and it's limited ambitions. No extras worth a damn but it's cheap and recommended on those terms.
