On Christmas Eve, ten passengers board a bus traveling across Texas. Most are heading for home, family and friends. Some are in search of new jobs. One, an Army deserter, is trying to stay ahead of the Military Police. On an empty section of highway, the bus collides with a nomadic biker wired on crystal meth. When the passengers go to his aid, he opens fire on the bus. Terrified, the passengers set upon him and kill him. The murder is witnessed by eight other members of the biker's pack. The passengers flee on the bus with the bikers in pursuit. Forced off the road, the passengers take refuge in an abandoned wrecking yard. As they watch in horror, the bikers surround the place before sending one of their own to bring back the rest of the pack. While the remaining bikers launch probing attacks, the passengers rely on improvised weapons and sheer guts to mount a defence. Their numbers dwindling, the passengers realise they must do the unthinkable in order to survive.

Video

Exit Speed is released in France by budget company Emylia. They have provided the movie with a 1080i/50 transfer at a slightly cropped ratio of 1.78:1. It is the definition of an average transfer.

Detail is generally good, but never strikingly great, the highlight being during the highway chase between the bus and the motorbikes. There are a couple of scenes which feel overly dark, and detail is a casualty. These tend to be the scenes with Fred Ward in his car, both during the opening credits and when he is hunting down the bus route. Also of note, the scene in which the bus driver is in the washroom getting ready for work feels a little washed out and murky. The rest of the feature looks strong, but never reaches the right amount of depth to astound anyone. There is no sign of any major damage to the print. No scratches, artifacts or dust.

The disc is region free and the film runs 87:13.

Audio

There are two options available here:
- English DTS-HD High Resolution 5.1
- French DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Stereo

For my viewing, I opted for the original English track which is more than suitable. Although Emylia have opted for High Resolution over the preferred Master Audio, the track is robust in all the right places - the engine sounds of the motorbikes as they surround the bus a particular highlight. Directionality is good, though the surrounds could've been utilised a little better, especially for dialogue in the more frantic scenes. There were no signs of damage to the track and although the volume on the dialogue could've been higher in comparison to the effects/score on occasion, it was audible at all times.

Optional subtitles are available in French only.

Extras

None. Not even a trailer.
