Two of L.A.'s top rival cops are going to have to work together... Even if it kills them.

Ray Tango (Sylvester Stallone) and Gabe Cash (Kurt Russell) are rival L.A. policemen with one thing in common: each thinks he is the best. Team them and they're like oil and water. But frame them for a crime and they're like a match and kerosene.

Stallone and Russell deliver sweaty excitement, sex appeal and outrageous laughs in this action comedy from the director of Runaway Train. The two stage a prison breakout that's a breathless rush of weapons and wisecracks — then roar after the shadowy crimelord (Jack Palance) who set them up. Tango & Cash are out to clear their names. Join them and feel the rush.

Video

Warner Home Video have released the eighties cop-actioner "Tango & Cash" onto Blu-ray using the original aspect ratio of 2.40:1. The transfer uses a VC-1 encode and is 1080p. Although a marked improvement on the old DVD releases, the picture quality has some minor flaws.

The most notable flaw that I noticed, was repeated minor edge enhancement. This mostly occurs during the more fast-paced scenes, especially in the mid-range shots. Detail is generally good, but could certainly be improved upon. Some darker scenes lack that extra depth in facial close-ups we have become accustomed to in high definition transfers, but the detail levels are inconsistent because the lighter scenes can really pop and surprise you. Textures are even, and although skin tones can appear slightly warm at times, colours are generally natural, with blacks deep for the majority of the run time. There is a light natural grain running throughout the transfer, but on a couple of occasions noise becomes overly noticeable. Apart from the odd moment of artefacting, there are no scratches or major blemishes to speak of. The transfer is above average for a catalogue title, though a new remaster would be welcome.

The disc is region free, and the film runs 103:46.

Audio

The following audio options available:
- English Dolby TrueHD 5.1
- English Dolby Digital 5.1
- French Dolby Digital 5.1
- German Dolby Digital 5.1
- Italian Dolby Digital 5.1
- Russian Dolby Digital 5.1
- Spanish (Castilian) Dolby Digital 5.1
- Spanish (Latin) Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo

For my viewing, I opted for the lossless English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track. To be honest, considering the amount of action, it's quite a boring track. I didn't find it to be as immersive as I would have hoped, and although the score and the effects do make reasonable use of the surrounds on occasion, the track is just missing that extra oomph. A lot of the audio does tend to come from the front, limiting the atmosphere slightly, but at least dialogue was clear at all times. Damage-wise, I can't say that I noticed any. There are no scratches or drop outs, and there are no signs of background hiss. Tango & Cash is a loud and brash movie, but the audio track doesn't quite live up to the same standard. Disappointing, but adequate and without problems.

Subtitles are available in Danish, Dutch, English HoH, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.
