The true story behind the biggest manhunt in history.

After interrogated detainees reveal details on Osama bin Laden’s possible whereabouts, intense training begins for a team of Navy Seals who ready themselves for an unknown mission, with the only Intel that it will be top priority. With orders received from the Pentagon, the team lands at the US Air Base in Bagram, Afghanistan and learn their target will be known as Geronimo.

Code Name: Geronimo is the gripping story of an extraordinary group of Navy Seals who undertook the most daring military operation of our generation to either capture or kill America’s number one enemy.

Video

Studio Canal have released "Code Name: Geronimo - The Hunt for Osama Bin Laden" (original title: "Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden" on to Blu-ray in the United Kingdom using the original aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The transfer is 1080p, uses an AVC MPEG-4 encode, and looks pretty good.

The film uses a lot of darkened locations and dark camouflage colours amongst some drab office and sandy yellow middle eastern environments. Blacks are deep and inky, with no signs of crush, whilst the shadow details in darkened areas show an above average level of clarity. Other details are also strong, especially long distance panning shots, and facial close-ups. There are expected drops in quality during some scenes which are made to look like security camera footage, or live footage from helmet cams and the helicopter, but it is far from distracting, and likely realistic to how it would look in real life. There are a few brief moments where some minor aliasing can be seen, but nothing too concerning. There are no signs of damage to the print such as scratches or dust. Overall, this is a solid transfer with no major flaws or failings to worry about.

The feature is uncut, and runs 100:52, including Studio Canal logos at the beginning.

Audio

Two audio options have been included:
- English/Arabic DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1
- English/Arabic LPCM 2.0 Stereo

For my viewing, I opted for the enjoyable English/Arabic DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track which makes good use of the sound field from start to finish. One of the main elements of the movie, is the sporadic and varying type of gun fire. Each bullet is well directed, and makes full use of the surrounds. The ricochets, the clicks of the gun, the whizzing bullets through the air - all sound great and the track feels immersive. More subtle elements of the track also make their presence known, such as background chatter in offices and the gentle sound of wind. Dialogue is clear at all times, and there is no noticeable damage such as drop outs or scratches.

Forced English subtitles are available for non-English dialogue only.

Extras

The main extra that has been made available here, is a "Making Of" featurette running 16:45. It's standard EPK stuff with various clips of the film played around some behind the scenes footage and interview snippets. Still, there is enough here to make a single watch enjoyable, but don't go expecting anything in depth or particularly technical. It is good to hear about some of the different reasonings why the story takes the shape it does, and how the roles of the CIA operatives were expanded though.

We also get a theatrical trailer (2:38).
