The Show

A lot has been said about "South Park" (1997-present), it's juvenile, offensive and crude... however it's also funny, clever and hasn't let up since the show's premiere in 1997. Over the years the most iconic character to come out from the series is Eric Cartman (Trey Parker), his mannerism and antics make for a popular character (If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone mimic his voice, I'd be a millionaire). So his popularity is probably the reason for this release, "The Cult of Cartman: Revelations" which collects a series of 12 episodes from 2001-2008 which feature the antics of Cartman and are introduced by him with life lessons.

The episodes range from the hilarious "Ginger Kids" to the moderately funny "Scott Tenorman Must Die" which features Cartman trying to get revenge on Scott for selling him his pubes and not giving his money back, which although the episode itself isn't that funny the ending is shockingly good. My favorite episodes of the set is the two part "Cartoon Wars" episode which pokes fun at "Family Guy" (1999-present), it's genius in it's satirization as well as "Awesom-O" where Cartman plays a trick on Butters as a Japanese robot but learns a terrible truth that Butters has a video of Cartman playing in his backyard dressed as Britney Spears! The episodes feature the best (or worst depending on how you see it) of Cartman's antics. The episodes are also totally uncensored, so all the beeps and blurs have been removed.

Like anything "South Park" the shock value is what these episodes are all about, so if you've got a hankering for Cartman's most memorable moments then this is a fairly decent set to purchase, however if you've collected the season sets then there's no reason to pick this up. The disc collects 12 episodes and they include:

- "Scott Tenorman Must Die"
- "Awesom-O"
- "The Death of Eric Cartman"
- "Cartoon Wars Part I"
- "Cartoon Wars Part II"
- "Le Petite Tourette"
- "Tonsil Trouble"
- "Eek, a Penis!"
- "Cartmanland"
- "Up the Down Steroid"
- "Super Fun Time"
- "Ginger Kids"

Video

Presented in 1.33:1 full screen preserving the original broadcast ratio, these episodes look pretty good, colors are nice and bold, they're vivid and pop off the screen. The lines around the characters appear a bit sketchy or pixelated at times but that's not really too much of a problem. The image is clean and free of any major flaws such as compression problems. These transfer look slightly better than when broadcasted but only just.

Audio

A single English Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo track is included, these are most likely the original broadcast audio. There's no depth or range, ambient noise or anything immersive as the series is focused on dialogue and music cues but that's it. These elements come across real well and distortion free. There's nothing great about the track but there's nothing wrong with them either and present the show's audio accurately.
There are no optional subtitles available on this set.

Extras

Paramount hasn't really included any extras other than newly animated video introductions by Eric Cartman before each of the episodes and runs for around 10-20 seconds each. Aside from that, there's nothing else on this 2-disc set.

Packaging

This 2-disc set is packaged in a digi-book style package that looks like a bible.
