*The R1 40th Anniversary Edition has a new transfer and presented in 1.66:1 (slightly opened up from the 1.75:1 presentation but still cropped from the 1.33:1 version).
*The R1 "Most Wanted Edition" presents the film in it's theatrical ratio of 1.75:1.
*The R1 Gold Collection presents the film in it's original 1.33:1 ratio and has the original Mono. But note, the R2/4 releases have 5.1 sound (but no Mono).
Both the 40th AE and the Most-Wanted Edition have 5.1 sound and the same extras (only bonus trailers are different).
About the aspect ratio:
*"Robin Hood (1973)" is one of the several (basically from "101 Dalmatians (1961)" to "The Fox and the Hound (1981)") animated films from Disney, where there have been some confusion (and debates) about the "original aspect ratio".
*Itīs quite obvious, that most of these films were shown theatrically in widescreen (1.78:/1.85:1 - or perhaps 1.66:1), but there are also people who prefer 1.33:1 "Open matte"-versions (some claiming that itīs actually the "OAR").
*With "Robin Hood (1973)", the 1.33:1 version is indeed "Open matte", as confirmed in the review (with screencaps) Here (UltimateDisney.com).
*The 40th AE Blu-ray and DVD releases presents the film in 1.66:1. Although still cropped from the 1.33:1 version, it opens up a bit of the top and bottom as opposed to the Most Wanted Edition DVD which presents the film in 1.75:1.
*Rewind doesnīt really want to be part of these aspect ratio-debates, so we recommend making your own decision based on the reviews, screencaps and other sources. We also feel, that you canīt go that wrong with "theatrical aspect ratio". -
