The UK and German editions have exclusive extras. The UK release also includes the actual export version as an extra while the US release includes an earlier attempt to synchronize the English track with the Italian version.
GENERAL NOTES:
A number of cuts have appeared on VHS but there are three principal versions on DVD and Blu-ray:
- the Italian version (97:18) featuring a piano-dominated score by Franco Manino including the following scenes:
-- after the opening scene in the film studio, we see Michael at home playing Liszt's "Liebestraum" on the guitar and singing along for a few seconds before the English version resumes with Michael discovering the photograph of him as a child;
-- while Michael and Deborah are driving, Michael's flashback of his father conducting an orchestra is extended to reveal his father having a heart attack;
-- when Oliver shows Deborah to her room and informs her that the room next to hers is Michael's father's study;
-- an entire scene in which Glenda and Hans talk about Michael killing his father as a child (it plays like a redundant deleted scene but it does establish the whereabouts of two people around the time of Beryl's attack);
-- when Glenda and Deborah are having dinner, Oliver tells them that the "mechanical saw" is missing and he does not know where Susan has gone.
- the shorter English export version titled "Unconscious" (91:31) with an uncredited electronic score (although Claudio Simonetti of Goblin is interviewed on the Blu-ray release, he is not the composer), pacing trims, rearrangement of some scenes, and some exclusive shots including a sequence of Beryl (Laura Gemser) wandering the house at night from 25:34 to 28:20 that replaces a scene in which Hans and Glenda discuss the occult (28:17-32:27 in the Italian version);
- Raro Video's English-language version (91:35) which is based on the Italian cut, removing scenes not dubbed into English, and resulting in some poor sound edits to synchronize the dub to the Italian arrangement of scenes (this version does not include the export version-exclusive shots).
