OVERALL: Draw
R2 Japan and The Artisan SE releases include new transfers, DTS tracks and additional features (minor differences on these two), however these releases are now OOP so it may be difficult to find, unless you buy the individual Japanese releases. The R2 Scandinavian release (6-disc) has the largest selection of extras but only 2.0 Surround sound (in English).
The current UE release from Lionsgate also includes the same new transfers and a set of new extras, however it drops many of the previous SE extras and the DTS track.
The R2 UK and original Scandinavian release have some featurettes not on the R1 but the R2 UK suffers from cuts on the third film and average transfers.
Fans of the series may consider both the Artisan SE and the Lion's Gate UE, otherwise the choice is yours as to what is more important. -
CUTS:
- R4 Australia- Universal Pictures - No cuts
- R4 Ultimate Edition Australia- Universal Pictures - No cuts
