OVERALL: Blu-ray A
The American Discotek Media release for the most extras and selective versions of the OVA.
Note that both releases have footage that was missing and a standard definition source was utilized to solve this problem. However, the Media Blasters' release had a few minor editorial errors. Discotek Media has fixed these and improved the coloring for a better flow between the two sources.
Notes about the versions:
"2-Episode OVA" - Originally, "Kite" was a 2-episode original video animation running approximately 53 minutes including credits for each episode.
"International Version - Director's Cut" - The 2000 Japanese reissue combined the episodes into one with edits removing some sexually explicit content but retaining the violence. This is known as the International Version - Director's Cut, running 47 minutes.
US General Release Version - The original US version with the sexually explicit content removed with alternate shots but retaining the violence, running 47 minutes.
Uncut Single Episode Version - This release includes the single combined episode OVA version with the previous edits restored with no visual censorship, with a runtime of 51 minutes.
A comparison between the Director's Cut and the uncut version is available on Movie Censorship. -
CUTS:
- Blu-ray A Integral Version America- Discotek Media - No cuts - includes US General Release Version (47:10), International Version (47:00), and Original Uncut Version in two parts (53:15) (54:54 with English credits)
- Blu-ray ALL Uncut America- Media Blasters - No cuts - Uncut single episode OVA version (51:25)
