REWIND NEWS FOR 2009

NEW AND IMPROVED REWIND - UPDATE LOGS AND BETTER SEARCHES

Wednesday 30th December 2009

Just in time to see in a brand new year here at Rewind, we have introduced some functionality to our database, as requested by you in our recent improvements survey.

First up is a new Update Log. This appears at the end of each comparison and will be used to show details of recent changes to the comparison.

You may have already noticed the Click here for Advanced Search button on the menu bar above. This will take you to our new Advanced Search which allows your to combine your search criteria using Title, Director, Year, Country and Company so, for example, you can now search for all films made in the United Kingdom in 1980.

We have also improved the search results. These were previously limited to 200 but this restriction has now been removed on all searches except the Title search, which has been expanded to allow 1000 results. We have also included the Alphabetic Search option on the results page for those of you trying to find titles such as V.

We hope that you will find these improvements very useful. As always, please let us have your feedback in the forums.

REWINDS 10TH BIRTHDAY: HOW CAN WE IMPROVE?

Monday 5th October 2009

As part of our 10th birthday celebrations (yes, Rewind will be 10 years old on 3rd November 2009), we would like YOUR suggestions on how we can improve the site. We are interested in your ideas, thoughts and concerns relating to the Comparison Database, Rewind Reviews or anything in general. Please visit this thread in The Rewind Forums to have your say. The thread will be open until Halloween - 31st October 2009 so get your ideas in quick!

THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS...

Saturday 26th September 2009

The main site and the forums are now on our new server. There may be one further move towards the end of October but if that goes ahead, details will be posted here.

Did you know that Rewind is 10 years old on 3rd November? Yep, we have been around now for a whole decade! Not many DVD sites can say that! We are using this as an opportunity to have a bit of a clean up of the site. A lot of the sections (outside of the main Comparison Database) are a bit out of date so some features (TiVo, RCE etc.) and other bits and bobs will be removed. So between now and the end of October some links may be broken or removed.

GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS...

Sunday 20th September 2009

The good news is that here we are on a brand new server. It may all look the same but the biggest plus is that you should find the site far more reliable than it has been in recent months.

The bad news is that we are still working on the forum move which, due to a small number of technical hitches, is still down at the moment. There are also some major revisions happening to the forums which you will be able to read about once they are up and running. Stay with us...

SITE MOVE UPDATE - FORUMS

Saturday 19th September 2009

We will shortly be moving this site and the forums to a new server. We are taking this opportunity to down size the forums so that we can concentrate on what matters most, i.e. the comparisons. This means that many of the forums will be removed. If you are a forum member and there is any thread which you would like to keep, please ensure you take a cut n paste copy by 23 September. Note that the work remaining in the Your Comparison, Corrections and Request forums will be cleared before the threads are deleted so there is no need to worry about those. Please keep an eye on the news items here for updates.

SITE MAINTENANCE

Wednesday 16th September 2009

We will be making some changes behind the scenes over the next couple of weeks relating to the hosting of our site. During this time you may experience short periods of downtime but hopefully it should be totally seamless. We will let you know once it has been completed.

With the influx of titles it can sometimes be hard to keep up. This is why we are looking for a new reviewer. - You must have a home theater set-up with minimum 5.1 speaker system
- You must have an understanding of the technical aspects of DVD and Blu-Rays (aspect ratios, audio formats etc.)
- You must be over 17 years old and currently reside in either the United States or Canada, unfortunately we cannot accept applicants from other countries at this time.

Like all the team members working on the site, it is completely voluntary and does not pay but the perks are the free copies of the latest DVDs from major studios that you get to keep. If you are interested, please email us at admin@dvdcompare.net with the following details:

- Your full name
- Your forum name (if you are already registered)
- Your home theater set up
- A sample review of a recent film
